RH Fleecer Ridge Clearance with TD4
Do you know if TD4 clear enough space for Rene Herse Fleecer Ridge ? Max tire clearance for TD4 is said to be 2.2 which should fit Fleecer Ridge but depending on many factor we know that tire size can vary.
Answer
We have seen TD4 built with Fleecer Ridge, but we haven’t built any in-house to verify how much clearance remains. It will no doubt be tight, so I would consider that a size that I would ride in dry conditions, not muddy conditions. 2.1″ is much safer.

Smart Trainer Compatibility?
Hi there, do you know if the Flaanimal 5.0 is compatible with common smart trainers? E.g., Wahoo Kickr, Zwift Hub, etc.

Yes it is compatible with smart trainers. We haven’t personally used one this way but customers do.

Best Method for Setting Flaanimal Slider Position
What is the recommended, best method for setting the sliders on my Flaanimal 5.0 so the rear wheel is properly aligned (straight and centered) with the frame? I’ve looked around and haven’t found any instructions for this… maybe because it’s obvious to everyone else? I’ve come up with a method that seems to work (use calipers to measure position of slider bolt relative to the end of the slider slot and match on both sides) but I couldn’t help wondering if there’s a more elegant method.
And in what may be a related question – are the slider set screws just there for use with single-speed setups? Do they have any function/purpose when running a geared setup?

Hi Colby,
Setting the slider / wheel position is very easy. Your caliper method would be effective and also precise (when measuring from the front of the slider, but what I do and have always done is simply set one slider where I want it and leave the other slider loose, then center the tire between the two chainstays using the play in the non-torqued slider. When the wheel is where I want it I torque the other slider to spec and lock in my desired tire position. There is no functional need to be ultra precise with this measurement, the bike will track and ride perfectly straight even if you are slightly non-centered in either direction – we tested this extensively far before the bikes were ever put into production.
Set screws are mostly there for dialing in chain tension (or previously also belt tension), but they can be used to help micro adjust slider position. In theory they could provide some anti-slip if your sliders aren’t fully torqued, but many people don’t even run the set screws and have no issues with dropouts slipping if they are properly torqued. Do be sure to keep those set screws greased when in the frame so that corrosion doesn’t go to work on them.

Sram DUB Wide BB
I am building up a Flaanimal 5.0 and am curious if I should get a SRAM DUB or DUB wide BB. Both are T47 and 85.5 mm so I believe they should work but I’m not sure about the Wide choice. I’m looking to build a mullet with a 1×12 Eagle AXS drivetrain with 700c 44m Gravel King tires, and want to confirm if Wide BB is needed or not. Thanks!

You may run wide cranks from Sram or Shimano on Flaanimal, but they are not required and the frame wasn’t designed around them, so we prefer not to, as it adds to the chain line unnecessarily.

SRAM UDH Compatibility
Is there any chance that your rear dropouts on the Flaanimal 5.0 would support the SRAM Transmission drivetrain in the future? It looks like a tricky problem to solve with your design – but it would be cool if there was something in the works.

It is on the horizon. No date set but seems possible. A simple slider revision would do it.

Reason for asymmetric slider design.
I noticed that the sliders on my Flaanimal 5 Ti are asymmetric when the thru-axle is aligned.ย The drive-side slider is almost 1cm further forward than the non-drive slider.ย ย None of my bikes with Paragon sliding dropouts are like this.
I was told on the phone “that’s just how the sliders are” I didn’t get a reason as to why they were designed that way.ย ย It seems like the asymmetry is just leaving space on table, which is strange when one of the main selling point of the bike is its sliding dropouts.

Over time we’ve revised both drive and non-driveside sliders on different intervals, and for a period of time the parts were as you described. Once we use(d) up those parts that we had in inventory the next batch were made symmetrical, but even after that revision the usable slider range remains the same between all versions. The frame hits all stated fore-aft slider ranges and accommodates all tire sizes no matter which slider version was used.

How much clearance is remaining with 2.4″ tires

Does someone have a picture of the remaining rear clearance for a flaanimal ti + 2.4″ tires (mezcal or ikon)?

We haven’t run a 2.35″ Ikon, but we have run the 2.35 Mezcal extensively, all across the world, including by Daniel Connel in Tour Divide. Clearance has been excellent for those events. We don’t have a set mounted to measure here, but an estimate would be 6-8mm of clearance per side of the tire with the sliders all the way back. This is on our Rodeo 2.0 rim. Clearance varies per rim brand / width. Not all tires of a given measurement actually measure what the label says, and tread pattern will also affect actual real world measured size.

Trevor. Yes we can use aluminum wheels and otherwise configure every build per your goals / specs.

TD 3.1 Seatpost Slipping
Having a hard time w my Ritchey carbon seatpost slipping on my TD 3.1 Previous issues were solved by some carbon paste, no luck now. Can I torque past 4nm? The seat post is well under 27.2, leading to a substantial diff with the inner diameter of the frame.

Yes it is ok to torque past the 4nm listed on that clamp. That is a third party clamp with an extremely conservative torque number. 6-7nm shouldn’t be an issue. We have noted a lot of variability in post diameter between different post brands as well.
