Switching to a 1x?
I was wondering what the process would be and what parts I would need to switch over to a 1x. I originally ordered my TD 3.1 in a 2x GRX setup but as of lately I’ve been wanting to switch to the 1x drive train and maybe use one of the shifters for a dropper post. Was just wondering how easy that would be with the Traildonkey

Ask for compatibility and info
Hi there,
I planned tu buy a Flaanimal 5.0 and just have some questions before.
First, is the frame and BB are ready for an MTB crankset like XO1 on non-boost version ? I want to build a mullet bike and i don’t really understand the 85.5 T47 is compatible with…
Secondly, do you know the chainline with an Eagle rear sprocket ?
Thanks for your time and have a nice ride !
Best regards, Boris.
Answer
Flaanimal uses a road crankset Q-Factor and there is nothing unique about the design that would make it incompatible with any standard road crankset 1x or 2x.
The Q-Factor is 100% compatible with Sram mullet builds and we have built quite a few of them. Just use Something like a Force AXS 1x crank or a Praxis Zayante 1x crank, or anything similar.
You need an INTERNAL bearing bottom bracket, and any T47 internal bearing BB will work. Match the bearing size with your spindle diameter (Dub, 30mm, M30, 24mm, etc)

Standover height
I was looking at a size 48cm Flaanimal, 650b wheels with 48c Panaracer tires. Can you share the standover height?
Thanks
Answer
The 49cm Flaanimal 5.0 shows 74.7cm standover with 650b x 2.1 tires. With a 48mm tire you would probably drop to about 74cm. If you were to drop to the 48cm frame (4.1 not 5.0) you would go down to 72cm. This is all an estimate because we do not have any 48cm frames built up but it should be close.

Flaanimal with Hope RX4 160mm brakes
Hi,
Iโve fitted the Hope RX4 on my Flaanimal 5.0 build. They are for 160mm disks. Since they are 4 piston and have a wide body I had to go with the mechanical flat mount slider in the rear as they are too wide to fit between the seat stays and the wheel. Not super nice looking but looking at the forest I ride is more important.
On the front, I fitted the Hope caliper onto a SRAM AM flat mount bracket (00.5318.018.000) because straight on the Spork and the calipers will rub against the disc. With the bracket, the brake pads sit a little too high on the disc. Can you recommend a better bracket/adapter? Thanks!Answer
Philip. Hope calipers are 160mm only and are made specifically with one version each for front and rear. No mounting plates are used they are directly mounted to the frame / fork. If you use a mounting plate the brakes will not operate correctly.

Half & Half Payment
Hello,
I am about ready to pull the trigger on a TD3.1, I have seen a few places on the site to pay half as a deposit and half to commence the build. I was curious if this is still an option? I am a graduate student so the ability to spread the payments would be massively helpful.
Also, I am in between sizes for the 58cm and 61cm frames. I have ridden 58cm frames in the past with reasonable comfort. I understand I can swap the stem/move seat forward later on to adjust reach, in your opinion, would it be better to go with the larger frame?
Thank you,
Charlie

Weight limit
Hi,
I’m going back and forth on the Flaanimal 5.0 and the Ti because titanium is awesome but do I really NEED it? One factor is the weight limit. I’m about 200 pounds and regularly load up 20 pounds of gear depending on the situation but worry that I’ll come very close to the weight limit easily, especially on a bikepacking trip. Is the weight limit the total system weight or just the weight of the rider plus gear? If it’s the total system weight, would you recommending bumping up to the ti if I can swing it? I just don’t want to explode my bike in the middle of nowhere. Ha!
Thanks,
Ian
Answer
Ian,
Both the steel and Ti frames are tested to the same standards so your concerns about steel being less up to the task than Ti isn’t necessary. Even at 200lbs + gear you won’t overwhelm the capabilities of either frame and we leave generous margin of error overhead in our weight ratings above and beyond the stated weight limit (250 rider / gear) so that not only ourselves but also the customer has peace of mind. Thanks!

Timing of an XL trail donkey
I sent an email off the website last week. Curious as to what the timing is on a new trail donkey – the matte black with orange graphics.
I need an XL, and was thinking about two sets of wheels – one road, one gravel.
I assume that you guys are slammed and bikes are several weeks out?
I’d like some help with the components but am ready to pull the trigger….
Answer
Mark,
Thanks for the note. Our inbox shows that we’ve replied to everyone so perhaps our response went to your Spam folder?
Our next batch of TD3 are due late March or early April.
If our emails aren’t getting through could you email me at steve@rodeo-labs.com and I’ll make sure we get this conversation moving again.

Will a 46/30 crankset work with the Flaanimal 4.1?
Have a frame on the way, and would like to go with a 46/30 crankset. Wanted to make sure the front derailleur hanger will come down low enough.

Derailleur hanger bolt interfering with Burley axle
I have a TD 3.1 and would like to be able to use the bike with my Burley trailer but the Burley axle adapter and the derailleur hanger bolt are not playing nice.ย Do you offer an alternative derailleur hanger bolt or have a suggestion?
Answer
Unfortunately we don’t have a solve for that. We would check with Burly for any advice they can offer.

light/fender mount on Spork 1.2
Is it possible to mount a fender or light on the Spork 1.2 without using a 65mm bolt? It looks like the head of a standard 5mm can just fit through the rear of the Spork. Is it designed to do this?
Sam
