Spork 4.0 Steer Tube

Can you recommend a stem/handlebar combination for fully integrated cable routing. Maybe something similar to my Cervelo Caledonia-5?

With Spork 4 you have a lot of different options depending on the bike that you’re installing it on. Spork 4 has a D shaped steer tube that allows you to use traditional stems in fully integrated applications without proprietary headsets, and it is also compatible with fully integrated bar / stem / headset systems.

What is critical is that you use a stem / headset that were designed together if you’re using the system approach.

For example, when using Enve EnRoute, use an Enve stem and Enve spacers, combined with either Wolf Tooth or Chris King EnRoute headsets.

If using FSA fully integrated systems, use their ACR integrated line, such as the NS ACR stems and No 55 ACR headset, for example.

The same applies to Ritchey integrated systems, etc.

Some brands such as Black Inc are possible to use, but trickier because their headset upper are designed around Factor frames. Cervelo stems would be tough to use because their headset uppers are designed around Cervelo frames.

When we do builds with parts / stems from other bike brands we often 3d print a headset upper cover to match the proprietary shape of bike-brand-specific components.

If you have more details about the combo you’d like to run, we could advise further.

I should have been more specific in my original question. What handlebar/stem combination have you found that works best with internal cable routing on your Flaanimal Ti frameset? Can you recommend a set-up that is clip-on areobar compatible?

We build most with the FSA SMR II stem and the K-Force AGX handlebar. The ergonomics on that bar are amongst the best, so we recommend it a lot.

We’ve also run the Ritchey Superlogic Butano Ridge bars/stem combo a fair bit with great success.

Also popular on some of our builds, the Enve system with Wolf Tooth Enroute compatible headset.

When using any of those systems, you’ll need to use an EC44 upper cup with an IS52 upper bearing to mate with their heatset top covers. This introduces a large upper headset cup into an otherwise elegant headtube. Similar to this photo:

With Spork 4 and it’s d-shaped steer tube you can ALSO use a smaller ZS44 headset upper with a smaller 42mm upper bearing when building fully integrated. This leaves you with a much more svelte looking head tube similar to this:

Spork 4 hasn’t arrived in volume yet, so we haven’t tested all of the various stem options to find our favorite stem to use yet. We’ll have more information on that in July. What you would be looking for is any normal stem that has a hole between the stem and the steer tube clamping area. Most Ritchey stems do this, or for instance the Shimano Pro Vibe Superlight stem does this. You could use any handlebar you like for this, as long as the handlebar supports integrated routing and has a pass through hole at the clamping area of the bar.
