Why Laid Back?

Donkeys have many talents. Some are built for speed and agility, some are a powerful, trusty tractor. Whatever path your Donkey has found, the Laid Back slider lets you dial in the ideal setup to keep you and your Donkey healthy and happy for many more years of adventures.

  • Cleared for clearance: An additional 1cm of fore/aft movement is the difference between “maybe” and “definitely.” It provides the necessary frame and rim clearance party-ready 2.4″ rubber, and it also gives a much safer amount of clearance for a 2.25″ tire.
  • Not JUST Tires: Even if your riding style doesn’t need massive tires, sliding back creates a generous “mud shed” zone, because you have more important things than frame rub to worry about when the trail turns into peanut butter.
  • Let Your Donkey Donk: We don’t believe in “one size fits all” geometry or “planned obsolescence”. Let your TD4 stretch its legs and be the versatile beast it was always meant to be.

What About My Geometry?

Changing the slider will change your ride quality. Is it what you’re looking for?

Traction Control: The longer stay helps keep the rear wheel planted during steep, technical climbs.

Evolutionary DNA: Why should Flaanimals have all the fun? We didn’t guess on the feel; the Laid Back slider gives you the same geometry and tire options Fl6 riders have been pushing for years. Now you can bring that soul to the TD4.

Stable & Sure-Footed: By lengthening the wheelbase, the TD4 becomes more composed on loose, steep descents, fast, all-out drag strips, and chunky fire roads.

Do I really need THAT much clearance?

Probably not, but it’s a lot more fun when you have it. In sandier conditions, larger tires float over the sand better. When preparing for The Rift Abyss in Iceland in 2026, Stephen’s bike was outfitted with Laid Back Sliders, Spork 4, and 700×2.4″ tires, which gave it a pronounced advantage over bikes with smaller tires on the very sandy, very rugged choice. The differences added up to many tens of minutes of time saved over the 206 mile course. Large tires aren’t needed every day and on every ride, but when you do need their benefits, they’re great to have as an option.
