Flaanimaaul 5.0 // 58cm // Flat Bar

A while back we did a legendary Star Wars inspired / space themed TD4 build. After that, our lead painter Brad wondered to himself: “What would the dark side of the force look like in this situation”? The Flaanimaaul was born.

We started with a naked black Flaanimal 5.0 steel and carbon frameset. Instead of going over the top with complex graphics and detail, this bike, inspired by Darth Maul, the famous light saber wielding villain of Star Wars Episode 1, keeps things dark, red, and mean. The beauty of this one is in the details, from the one-off Maul inspired Flaanimal headbadge, to the Spork logo, and the downtube graphics themselves. Other subtle details, such as red shift housing, fat tires, and red grips complete the look.

This bike isn’t all show though, the build will absolutely fly in mixed terrain riding thanks to its Rodeo carbon wheels, polished flat bar, and beautifully made, CNC machined Vivo rear derailleur. The drivetrain has wide range Sram Eagle 10-52 gearing, and a custom blasted silver front Praxis chainring mounted to a carbon Praxis Zayante crankset. A premium Thomson Elite / 27.2 dropper posts makes things more nimble and very fun in technical riding, or it gives you the simple joy of standing flat footed at that evil red stoplight on a casual ride around town.

This build is suitable for gravel, singletrack, mixed terrain, and would absolutely crush as a base for something as adventurous as Tour Divide, where Flaanimal took the overall victory in 2021.

A 58cm Flaanimal best fits riders from 6’0″ to 6’2″.
