I’m in search of a bike that I can use for racing gravel events and want to use 2.2 mtb tires on 700C rims. What is max tire size that can be used on this frameset in a standard 700c wheelset?
Thanks!
Hi Eric,
We didn’t specifically design the frame around 2.2″ tires, but, as it turns out, quite a few owners have mounted them successfully. It is definitely at the max of clearance. We’ve mounted for instance the Schwalbe Rick 700×2.2 on our 25.5 internal rim with great success. Sliders need to go full back for full tire clearance with the frame.
Different tires have different casing sizes even with the same label, so beware of that. Some will fit well, some could be larger or have larger of knobs, which would have danger of rubbing.
Mud will always diminish tire clearnace.
A rim like the 30mm internal Zipp 303 SW will make any given tire inflate large than the label suggests, so for instance it might turn a 2.0 or 2.1 into a 2.2.
Thanks!
Stephen
