Flaanimal 6 Ti

Titanium, Better.

First introduced in 2021, Flaanimal Titanium built on the extremely successful and versatile Flaanimal Steel series of bikes, first released in 2017. The design of the bike has been proven across its entire use spectrum, from road, to gravel, to rugged and ultra endurance bikepacking, with a notable win at Tour Divide in 2021.

Flaanimal is a multi-category cycling platform, it is intended to be configurable and adapted for the goals of its rider, even as they evolve over time. This was the concept that led Rodeo Labs to begin building bikes in 2014, and an ideal that still guides us today.

If so successful, why iterate Flaanimal Titanium at all?  The answer is two-fold. First, we saw opportunities to improve and expand its feature set in order to better serve the people who ride it. Second, with the palette of manufacturing methods ever-evolving, we saw Flaanimal Titanium as an opportunity to attempt more ambitious things with metal, and in doing to so to create a titanium bicycle that stands apart beautifully, as something distinctly Rodeo.

You will not find another titanium bicycle quite like this.

Feature Set

Head Tube

Our new hourglass shaped EC44 head tube is contoured for elegance, and sets the tone for our overall design philosophy on this frameset. We won’t promise that it’s aero, but If looks more aero, we’re ok with that.

Sculpted

6 Ti features a distinctive silhouette, one that stands out from the crowd of Titanium bikes, which are often difficult to tell apart. Its custom profiled top tube tapers elegantly as it approaches the seat tube, then wrapping around the seat tube and blending effortlessly into the seat stays. We accomplish this by use of 3d printing, expert welding, and hand finishing.

The Keg BB

6 Ti features The Keg, an improved T47 threaded bottom bracket shell. Once past the standard-sized bearing seat, the diameter of the BB shell increases, which creates space for internal routing to stay internal through the BB shell area – while not interfering with the crankset spindle.

A bowtie shaped pass-through between downtube and seat tube makes routing dropper post housing easier than it has ever been.

No Yoke?

Flaanimal 5 Ti features a CNC machined, dropped yoke design that allows for generous tire clearance and complete drivetrain choice. We wanted to go one better for 6 Ti; to create a more classically-shaped chainstay cluster. Through the use of careful tube shaping, 3d printing, and expert hand finishing we created a new No-Yoke design that’s so elegant, it will mostly go unnoticed.

Lock jaw 2

The Flaanimal 5 slider design has served us well for years, but with the advent of UDH derailleurs, it was time to create an improved sliding dropout system that solved for new derailleur engineering while shedding mass and complexity. Lock Jaw 2 builds on slider concepts first pioneered in TD4, and refines them for the current drivetrain era.

Routing Choice

Integrated (fully hidden) routing isn’t for everyone. Flaanimal 6 Ti supports three routing configurations so you can build the bike to suit your priorities,  whether that be elegance, serviceability, travel, tradition, or anything else.

Once those cables do enter the headtube, downtube, or fork, they stay hidden until they emerge from the frame at the derailleurs or brake calipers.

Tire Clearance

Flaanimal 5 Ti was no slouch in the tire clearance department, and could just barely fit a 700×2.1. Because we removed the dropped yoke, redesigned the sliders, and re-shaped the stays for 6 Ti, the frame increased that clearance in the full-back position – exactly matching TD4 for tire clearance. The frame now comfortably fits 2.1″ tires with room for the elements, and of course depending on tire casing and rim width you may be able to push it past that.

Dynamo ports

Added with a nod to ultra riders and commuters alike, 6 Ti includes two non-drive-side seat-stay routing ports that allow a dynamo wire to be run inside the frame and to the tail light. The upper port is located near the top of the stay at the seat tube cluster, and the lower port is located close to the dropout.

A similar port under the top tube allows for creative wiring and lighting when operating front or rear lights off of a battery.

6 Ti is paired with our Spork 3.3 fork, which itself also features dynamo routing ports.

Technical Information

geometry overview

6 Ti has two geometry options, suited to riders with different fit priorities. The variations are called Standard and Extended.

We will allow people to order either version of the geometry, and we will keep an eye on what is popular ongoing.

Standard geometry is unchanged from 5 Ti, and suits riders wo tend towards the road and gravel end of the multi use spectrum. Extended geometry has a 20mm taller head tube per-size as well as a one degree more slack head tube angle, with a nod towards ultra endurance and touring.

Additionally, depending on headset configuration, it is possible to use a low profile ZS upper cup for no increase in stack height, or an EC44 upper cup for an additional 15mm higher stack measurement.

An Extended Geometry Flaanimal 6 Ti can be built with up to 35mm higher total stack than a 5 Ti, if desired.

geometry - Standard

Our standard geometry is the Flaanimal geometry that everyone who owns one knows and loves. The geometry is largely shared across every bike we make, and has proven itself versatile and predictable across genres. This is true quiver killer geometry, ideal for using the bike from road, to gravel, to fast paced ultra riding.

geometry - Extended

Our extended geometry is a new option, and increases the stack on each frame size for a more upright riding position. We also slackened the head tube angle slightly for more relaxed handling. The handling changes will be very subtle on this version, but are more suited for a rider who is touring or riding ultra distance events with their bike.
