Looking ahead some bikepacking this summer.  I will be riding the Log Driver Waltz in Ontario, Canada, 800km ride.  I would like the biggest tires I can fit on my 700c rims.  I was thinking of installing some Rene Herse Fleecer Ridge tires on my Flaanimal.  At 700 x55, am I playing into dangerous territories  with rubbing or should I install  the Oracle Ridge At 48mm width.  My thinking was to roll with 55mm in front and 48mm in back for maximum comfort, but if I can ride with 55mm in back without damaging anything that would be way to go.

Looking advises.

I am welcoming tires suggestion also.

Sebastien,

I do think that 700×55 in the rear is really tempting fate. Jay did run 700×54 at Tour Divide in 2021, and won it, but he was a sponsored rider and wasn’t so much worried about protecting his frame in the mud.

Were it me, I would run the 55 in the front and 48 in back, or even a 50mm if you have one you like.
